A vertical, towering wine, the 2006 Cristal Rosé is a thrill a minute, with a compelling interplay of aromatics and exquisitely layered fruit, all supported by a real feeling of phenolic intensity. While the 2007 is seductive, the 2006 is virile and imposing, with the statuesque lift of a Giacometti sculpture. All the elements meld together in a complete, alluring Champagne that will continue to drink beautifully for many decades. In 2006, the Pinot Noir was already being farmed biodynamically, while the Chardonnay was still under conversion."

The Story

Cristal Rosé was first born a hundred years after the original Cristal, in 1974. It is an intriguing and particular prestige cuvée rosé, as it has the palest colour, yet a contrastingly fleshy, fruity, well-built palate of amazing freshness. Its secret is in the 60 per cent Pinot Noir from two hectares of Roederer’s own old-vine vineyards in Aÿ, Bonotte-Pierre-Robert and La Côte du Moulin, which are now cultivated according to biodynamic principles. It is these ripe, concentrated grapes that give the wine its delicate hue via the saignée, or bleeding method. Then 30 per cent of Côte des Blancs Grand Cru Chardonnay from Le Mesnil sur Oger and Avize is added to give spine and elegance.

2006 was a very warm year, featuring contrasting rainfall conditions. After an unusually cool and rainy August, September’s warm, dry weather accelerated fruit maturation and produced distinctive, rich, and complex grapes.

ELABORATION
A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, comprising 20% of wine vinified in wood (oak tuns), which undergoes weekly bâtonnage (stirring by hand); it is not subjected to malolactic fermentation.
Louis Roederer’s Rosé champagnes are always produced using the saignée (bleeding) process after cold maceration for 5 to 8 days in the liquid phase. The Cristal Rosé cuvée is aged, on average, for 6 years in Roederer’s cellars and left for 8 months after dégorgement (disgorging) to attain the perfect balance.

DOSAGE : varies from 8 to 10 g/l depending on the vintage.

STYLE
Three words evoke this wine’s style: refreshing, lively, and silky.

TASTING
A salmon pink hue with bright golden tints.A persistent stream of fine bubbles.
A summery bouquet of fresh fruit, with the right balance of sweetness and acidity (red currants and vine peach). The Pinot Noir’s concentration and maturity adds distinctive notes of ‘fruit liqueur’ (raspberry) and aromas of roasted almonds and gingerbread. The attack is voluptuous—it is both intense and amazingly light; a concentrated blend of fruit based on chalky freshness and firm, but well-integrated tannins that strengthen the wine’s precision and appeal. The ensemble is very harmonious, beautifully integrated, and gives an impression of natural fullness, which is both refined and profound.
Cristal Rosé 2006 is a perfect evocation of the ripe fruit of the 2006 vintage gathered from the chalky terroirs of the Cristal Rosé vineyards.

A cold winter and springtime frosts laid the foundations for this vintage of abundant yields (12,997 kg/ha). Uneventful flowering was followed by exceptionally hot and sunny weather, which lasted until August. A dank August left producers fearful but fortunately warm, bright conditions in September redressed the balance. Harvest commenced on September 9th, producing grapes high in sugar level but notably low on acidity. The general health of the grapes was sufficient, producing wines which excel over the preceding 2005 vintage, another warm and ample year. The year's greatest wines are supple and expressive and despite the richness they escape being overly heavy. Overt and welcoming upon launch, the best come with excellent capacity for ageing. Winey, and richly fruity characters, most Champagnes regrettably miss some tension and finesse. Wines of the vintage include Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Krug Vintage and Dom Pérignon Rosé.

Deep shade of salmon pink . A fresh nose: primary shade of fresh fruit with aromas of minerals and roasted almons. Pinot Noir domination is present, but the wine is still very young. Perfectly rich structure and very harmonious mouth-feel hold promises of graceful aging and of a firm and an elegant entity.

The 2006 was a parallel vintage to 1999 and 1988. The wine is made from 56% Pinot Noir (organic) from the "Musigny of Champagne " site in Aÿ. 44% Chardonnay comes from Avize. The vines are 60-80 years old. The dosage of 9 g/L. 19% of the base wine was vinified in oak barrels.

Bright, onion skin colour. Refined and complex nose revaels some orange flower and apricot brioche aromas. Dry, intense and broad palate has tremendous richness, complexity and density. Great silky smooth mousse and superwell integrated subtle texture with lingering long mineral finish. – 98p JL (April 2024)

1. Start by Signing up and creating your profile

- Add a profile picture and more information about yourselves


2. Next, Create your personal Wine World

- Click iFollow (Discover) from the top menu

- Tastingbook has added automatically into your wine world 5-10 of the most active professionals or Pro's as we call them.

- Search for more pros or other users by typing their name in the search field. Then click into my world to those who you want to include in your wine world. This way, you may be notified when they taste wines or comment on them.

- You can also add wines and wine producers into your wine world. This allows you to access the most up-to-date information about them.


3. Invite your friends to join the tastingbook

- Click your username on the top menu and choose invite

- Type your friends email addresses and click send invites

- You can follow the status of your invitation on the same page


4. Create a tasting and do tasting notes

4.1. Click the New tasting button from the top menu.

- Name the tasting as you wish.

- Set the place and time (You can also add your past tasting notes by just changing the date)

- Click the add new wine button on the right to add new wines to the tasting.

- Now go to the box that says 'Click to add the wine'.

- Start by typing the wine or producer name and select the wine from the list that appears.

- After you have selected the wine, the vintage selection will be opened automatically

- Select the correct vintage by clicking on it.


4.2. Next, click My tasting note box and the worlds most advanced tasting

- From the bottom left of the tasting tool you can select in which language you want to use and view tasting notes.

- just do your wine note by clicking the correct adjectives. The adjectives can be activated by clicking once, or de-activated by clicking again.

- Tastingbook Pros will teach you while you taste wines.

At the bottom of the page in the section Show notes of, you may view notes of the professionals by clicking Pro's. If any of the tastingbook pros have tasted the wine before their opinion will show in the gold colored frames around the adjectives on the tasting view.


4.3. After you have completed your wine note, it's time to give Tb points.

Click the box on the bottom right Give points.
In case you want to add any comment or personal thoughts related to this wine, you may tick the note box next to the scores. In this field you may add copy-pasted texts for instance your old notes, etc.


4.4. After you've completed your notes for all the wines, click Close tasting.

You may now share some general thoughts about the tasting or tasted wines and choose with whom you want share your tasting. Set the Tasting privacy to limit the audience who are able to view your tastings information. We suggest you use Everyone as most of the wine experiences are meant to be shared.

Note:

If a wine that you are tasting is not found in our database, please be kind enough to send us an email to: addwine@thetastingbook.com, please include at least the wine name and producer. We will add the wine in tastingbook within 24 hours.


5. Tastingbook is full of information and stories - how to find them.

Tastingbook is full of information about wines, vintages, and wineries and also has over 30.000 pictures of wines. To best way to find what you are looking for is to browse the site from the Browse field in the top right corner.

You may search for wine, vintage, producer, pros or other community members by typing the name in the browse field. You may then choose from the drop down menu.



If you have any difficulty in navigating the site you may easily get help by clicking the support button on the left side of the page
