Wine Description
The Story
The history of Château Bertrand Braneyre dates back to 1769. In 1993, Ludwig Cooreman bought Château Vieux Braneyre, renamed Château Bertrand Braneyre after the founder in 1769. After numerous investments in the vineyard, stainless steel vats, temperature control, a second vat house, etc., Château Bertrand Braneyre has become a safe bet in the wine world.
Wine Information
A dark garnet color. A vinous nose with very ripe red berry and prune notes. An incredibly complex palate, both intense and smooth. Intense, silky tannins. Notes of liquorice and ripe red berries, complemented by the wood of the barrels. An extraordinarily rich, intense aftertaste.
The manual and mechanical harvests are meticulously sorted on the vine and in the storehouse.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place over two to three weeks at a temperature 28°C, controlled by thermoregulated vats. At the end of the fermentation process, we proceed with the racking: the wine is drained off (removed from the lees/sediment), the lees are then removed from the vat and pressed to release the ‘press wine’ which is more tannique and less acid. This press wine will be used later on during the assemblages. By combining this press wine with the free-run wine, complexity is added to the final product.
After they have lasted through the winter cold, the wines are carefully tasted and blended in April and May. They are then aged for 12 months in 30% new oak barrels in the ideal temperature and humidity conditions.
After bottling, the wine can then be aged in the bottle. Depending on the vintage, more or less time must go by before the moment is reached at which the wine’s aromas transform into a bouquet. You are then able to fully appreciate the subtlety and complexity of the tasting.
Vintage 2022
Bordeaux 2022 vintage will stay in the memory of the world of wine as the exceptional vintage which kept a lot of surprises. The year started well with bud break at a normal date, so the frost in early April did not too much damage. The flowering started in mid-May and in optimal conditions. June brought stormy rains which were able to partially reconstitute de water reserves of the soil, however hail fell locally with sometimes very important damages. The fruit set took place a hydric limited context, which determines the small size of the berries. Veraison begun in mid-July in hot and dry conditions. August was hot however it kept a contrast of day and night temperatures, therefore the conditions for ripening the grapes were perfect. The white wines were harvested at a historically early date already in August. Also the reds were harvested very early at the beginning of September. Good news for the noble sweet wines: botrytis developed thanks to rain in early October and resulted in wines of great purity.
