Wine Description
The Story
This wine has always been made to express the pure character of the grape and the individual philosophy of beaumont wines. We produced our very rst vintage of the hope marguerite chenin blanc in 1997. only fruit selected from our oldest chenin blanc vineyard, planted in 1978, is used for this wine. barrel fermentation takes place in 400L french oak using only natural yeasts. careful selection and use of oak resulted in perfect balance between wood aroma and fruit avor, not wanting too much wood to overpower the chenin grape character. no malolactic fermentation takes place in order to keep the freshness of the wine’s acidity. the wine is kept on its gross lees for 10 months with regular batonage, giving it a richer and fuller palate. final blending in early 2015.
The nal wine has avors of fresh fruit beautifully balanaced by oak characters that follow onto a fresh tight palate with great elegance. Will develop beautifully over the next 5 – 10 years in bottle.
Matches brilliantly with seafood especially scallops. also try with try grilled sh with olives, lemon and rosemary sauce to enhance the combination of avours from this barrel matured chenin blanc. fusion-style Japanese dishes, thai, asian cuisine, or chicken cordon blue are all great options.
Wine Information
Beaumont is situated on the western side of the Bot River Valley, 8 km from the ocean. The property surrounds the town of Bot River. The vineyards are planted on ancient shale soils with beautiful gravely top soils that have a heavy clay base and are great for moisture storage. These low vigor soils have been producing wines for the past 80 – 100 yrs. The property dates back to the 1750’s when it was primarily an outpost farm for travelers to rest and replenish stocks. At the turn of the previous century the first wines were made in what is now a historical winery using modern wine making techniques to produce elegant, complex wines that capture the essence of the property and the region.
