The Story

Wine is a result of culture and nature coming together. For centuries it has been the fruit of both the vine and of man's labour. We are all familiar with the pleasure wine brings. The Roman expression : bonum vinum laetificat cor hominum ("good wine gladdens the heart") shows us how ancient this appreciation of fine wine actually is. Personnaly, I owe the privilege of being able to produce this precious nectar, in the prestigious appellation of Margaux, to my parents, Lucien and Marie-Jeanne. For me, of upmost importance is to strive to make a wine that captures all the finesse and elegance of the appellation.

Desmirail was classified a 3rd Grand Cru Classé as part of the 1855 classification. The wine is the result of a parcel of exceptional terroir within the Margaux appellation, which it represents perfectly with its delicate balance.

Vinification is carried out using modern techniques and equipment, but with an overarching respect for tradition. This results in a wine that can be enjoyed in its youth, but which also has a tremendous capacity to improve with age.

Strict grape selection and carefully adapted maturation methods are both key to making Château Desmirail into the Grand Vin it is.

Vintage 2022

Bordeaux 2022 vintage will stay in the memory of the world of wine as the exceptional vintage which kept a lot of surprises. The year started well with bud break at a normal date, so the frost in early April did not too much damage. The flowering started in mid-May and in optimal conditions. June brought stormy rains which were able to partially reconstitute de water reserves of the soil, however hail fell locally with sometimes very important damages. The fruit  set took place a hydric limited context, which determines the small size of the berries. Veraison begun in mid-July in hot and dry conditions. August was hot however it kept a contrast of day and night temperatures, therefore the conditions for ripening the grapes were perfect. The white wines were harvested at a historically early date already in August. Also the reds were harvested very early at the beginning of September. Good news for the noble sweet wines: botrytis developed thanks to rain in early October and resulted in wines of great purity.

Written Notes

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Powerful and concentrated nose with distinct aroma reminiscent of blackcurrants, blackcurrant spurs, hints of smoked bacon, violets and liquorice, distinct oak and toasting rich and aromatic with ripe tannins, juicy fruit, opulent toasting flavour, dark chocolate, hints of smoke, smoked bacon and liquorices. However, still fresh with excellent length.
