The Story

Since the 17th Century, the first wine of Château Margaux has been recognised as being one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations. It’s a remarkable wine that comes from a combination of characteristics that are only rarely found: finesse, elegance, complexity, density, intensity, length and freshness. Although its tan...

Vintage 1981

Bordeaux 1981 /The small but high quality vintage of 1981 was overshadowed by the superb 1982. Hot, dry weather began from flowering and continued until September, when occasional rains occurred until until the harvest is completed in good conditions at the beginning of October. Written Notes

The 1981 Chateau Margaux shows a mature ruby color with hints of brick red at the edges, typical of its age.

The nose is rich and developed, exuding aromas of dried red fruits, particularly cherries and cranberries, interwoven with notes of tobacco, leather, and a hint of damp earth. Floral undertones of dried violets add elegance.

On the palate, the wine offers a smooth, velvety texture with integrated tannins. It reveals a refined blend of dried fruit flavors alongside subtle spicy and earthy notes, underscored by a well-maintained acidity that brings freshness to the mature profile.

The finish is medium long, with echoes of leather and tobacco, and a final hint of herbal complexity.

This vintage is now fully mature and provides quite a sophisticated, nuanced drinking experience.

A very good vintage, which today has perhaps turned out to be superior to 1978 and 1979. The nose displays a lot of finesse, distinction, elegance and classicism. The balance on the palate is perfect, and the finish is soft and long. To be enjoyed now, but there is no rush.

Intense garnet red. A wine in a wonderful, slightly lighter style with discreet fruit and elegant spiciness. On the palate well structured with elegance and freshness, convincing length.
