Winemaker Notes
Although 2017 was a very challenging harvest overall, we were very fortunate in our small pocket of Russian River to not be faced with many of the issues affecting other vineyards and areas. 2017 was a very warm growing season and harvest but our close proximity to the Russian River offered some protection. Our Pinot Noir was picked while the weather was still warm but moderate and ideal for ripening.
Production Notes
Our Frost Ranch Pinot Noir was harvested by hand starting at 2 am in early September. The grapes were brought to the winery cold and destemmed and put into tank whole berry. After a five-day cold soak, a native fermentation started. Once dry, we pressed straight to barrel and let the wine sit in barrel without racking until just before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
