Viinin Kuvailu
The Story
This organic estate beautifully situated next to Châteaux Figeac and Chateau Cheval Blanc. Dark purple colour, nose is quite expressive but classic with ripe fruit plummy and blackberry fruit, structured, fresh tannins, good acidity with a velvety texture, ripeness and menthol, spicy flavours.
Wine Information
The team at La Tour Figeac were thrilled by the quality of their 2022, which is their second vintage organically certified. The blend 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, although the estate is replanting so that there will be 50% of each variety. The deep clay in certain parcels saved the vines from the drought. The wine has a dark glossy purple colour, good intensity, beautiful aromas of violets, peonies and spring blossom. There is a good buzz here: lively, sweet and fresh, with a good vein of acidity. There is medium weight, so not as rich as some wines but everything is in its place. Tannins are lively and well-integrated as is the alcohol. Very pretty and poised and living up to its good location, surrounded by Cheval Blanc and Figeac on the border with Pomerol.
Vuosikerta 2022
Bordeaux 2022 vintage will stay in the memory of the world of wine as the exceptional vintage which kept a lot of surprises. The year started well with bud break at a normal date, so the frost in early April did not too much damage. The flowering started in mid-May and in optimal conditions. June brought stormy rains which were able to partially reconstitute de water reserves of the soil, however hail fell locally with sometimes very important damages. The fruit set took place a hydric limited context, which determines the small size of the berries. Veraison begun in mid-July in hot and dry conditions. August was hot however it kept a contrast of day and night temperatures, therefore the conditions for ripening the grapes were perfect. The white wines were harvested at a historically early date already in August. Also the reds were harvested very early at the beginning of September. Good news for the noble sweet wines: botrytis developed thanks to rain in early October and resulted in wines of great purity.
