 The 2015 The Stone Terraces Vintage Port is a field blend, heavy on the Touriga Nacional, although not so listed, from two vineyards with stone terraces at Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos. It comes in with 106 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is gorgeous, with the potential for significant further development. Tight and focused, it is also refined, elegant and very sophisticated. It shows enough backbone to age well, although you might be able to approach this young Porto earlier than indicated. That said, it will certainly need some bottle age to gain complexity. Laced at the moment with primary fruit, raspberries mingling with plums, it is lifted, aromatic and delicious, lingering beautifully on the finish. Its purity of fruit makes it very appealing and sometimes stunning. Its finesse is exceptional, too. It could, perhaps, use a bit more concentration, but it is firing on all burners elsewhere. It is one of the 2015s that, I suspect, people will just love to drink even if it never quite improves to the point of sensational. Here's hoping it fleshes out a bit, comes together and merits an uptick in time. This has been released. There were just 4,800 bottles produced.(MS)

When in the late autumn of 2012 Charles Symington and his cousins tasted this Vintage Port from the Quinta dos Malvedos Stone Terraces, the decision was taken to bottle 4 pipes (casks) of this magnificent wine.

Graham's The Stone Terraces Vintage Port is a tribute to the men and women who labored to build the original stone walls at Quinta dos Malvedos in the late 18th century.

GRAHAM’S DECLARES STONE TERRACES 2015 VINTAGE PORT

Port producer Graham’s has declared 2015 a vintage year at its 2.9-hectare Stone Terrace vineyard at Quinta dos Malvedos in the Douro’s Cima Corgo region.

Graham’s The Stone Terraces Vintage Port is only bottled when the vineyard is deemed to have produced a “an incomparable wine” deriving from its unique location and composition

The Stone Terrace vineyard at Malvedos is composed of three parcels in a narrow, curving valley and all are immediately adjacent, one facing north, another due east and one due west. None of its vineyards face south.

In most of this vineyard there is a single row of vines on each traditional dry stone-walled terrace, which are of between 1.6 and 3 meters high.

Graham’s made the point that its quality does not always follow the general pattern of vintage Port declarations in the region, with the first ever The Stone Terraces release the 2011 Vintage Port.

Grapes were picked by hand on the 12 and 13 of September, a couple of days before substantial rain fell across the Douro Valley, and were then fermented in lagares in the estate’s own winery.

Yields were incredibly low at just 0.82 kg per vine but several hours of treading over the following days delivered a “magnificent wine with sublime floral aromas of violets”, said Graham’s in a release.

The warm surface stones in the soil and the walls themselves play an important role in sustaining maturation through the night, while the balance achieved by the varying aspects is key to this rare wine.

The Symington family, owners of Graham’s, described the 2015 The Stone Terraces as a vintage Port of “extraordinary elegance and complexity” that will “age superbly”.

Just 400 cases of the vintage Port will be produced.

“Flattering, with a gorgeous, seductive and showy display of warm plum sauce, blueberry reduction and chocolate-covered acaí berry flavors rushing forth. Light milk chocolate and black licorice notes check in through the finish, which is juicy and open in feel. Best from 2028 through 2040.”

This is the only non-declared year (at least from the Symintons) where a “Stone Terraces” Vintage Port was bottled. Due to this fact, the 2015 is pricewise somewhat “under the radar” as the Category Premium Vintage Port will be much stronger in the near future. Symington’s enologists Charles Symington and Henry Shotton picked two top spots of Graham’s prestigious Quinta dos Malvedos to source the grapes for the Stone Terraces Ports. Even against top 2017 Vintage Ports this Stone Terraces 2015 shows perfectly well and has everything for a long and bright future ahead: Brilliant deep dark color. Complex fruity bouquet with a basket full of berries, cassis and chocolate – extremely seductive. Firm tannins and perfectly supporting acidity on the palate, fresh red-berry fruit, cherry and chocolate. Long and balanced in the aftertaste. The challenge now is to leave some of the 4.800 bottles (no Magnums, no Tappit Hens) in the cellar... 19/20

1. Start by Signing up and creating your profile

- Add a profile picture and more information about yourselves


2. Next, Create your personal Wine World

- Click iFollow (Discover) from the top menu

- Tastingbook has added automatically into your wine world 5-10 of the most active professionals or Pro's as we call them.

- Search for more pros or other users by typing their name in the search field. Then click into my world to those who you want to include in your wine world. This way, you may be notified when they taste wines or comment on them.

- You can also add wines and wine producers into your wine world. This allows you to access the most up-to-date information about them.


3. Invite your friends to join the tastingbook

- Click your username on the top menu and choose invite

- Type your friends email addresses and click send invites

- You can follow the status of your invitation on the same page


4. Create a tasting and do tasting notes

4.1. Click the New tasting button from the top menu.

- Name the tasting as you wish.

- Set the place and time (You can also add your past tasting notes by just changing the date)

- Click the add new wine button on the right to add new wines to the tasting.

- Now go to the box that says 'Click to add the wine'.

- Start by typing the wine or producer name and select the wine from the list that appears.

- After you have selected the wine, the vintage selection will be opened automatically

- Select the correct vintage by clicking on it.


4.2. Next, click My tasting note box and the worlds most advanced tasting

- From the bottom left of the tasting tool you can select in which language you want to use and view tasting notes.

- just do your wine note by clicking the correct adjectives. The adjectives can be activated by clicking once, or de-activated by clicking again.

- Tastingbook Pros will teach you while you taste wines.

At the bottom of the page in the section Show notes of, you may view notes of the professionals by clicking Pro's. If any of the tastingbook pros have tasted the wine before their opinion will show in the gold colored frames around the adjectives on the tasting view.


4.3. After you have completed your wine note, it's time to give Tb points.

Click the box on the bottom right Give points.
In case you want to add any comment or personal thoughts related to this wine, you may tick the note box next to the scores. In this field you may add copy-pasted texts for instance your old notes, etc.


4.4. After you've completed your notes for all the wines, click Close tasting.

You may now share some general thoughts about the tasting or tasted wines and choose with whom you want share your tasting. Set the Tasting privacy to limit the audience who are able to view your tastings information. We suggest you use Everyone as most of the wine experiences are meant to be shared.

Note:

If a wine that you are tasting is not found in our database, please be kind enough to send us an email to: addwine@thetastingbook.com, please include at least the wine name and producer. We will add the wine in tastingbook within 24 hours.


5. Tastingbook is full of information and stories - how to find them.

Tastingbook is full of information about wines, vintages, and wineries and also has over 30.000 pictures of wines. To best way to find what you are looking for is to browse the site from the Browse field in the top right corner.

You may search for wine, vintage, producer, pros or other community members by typing the name in the browse field. You may then choose from the drop down menu.
