LE VOLTE DELL’ORNELLAIA 2010
An exactingly created blend, in the Style of Ornellaia
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia, a red from the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, combines opulence and generosity with intensity and complexity. Indeed, the softness of Merlot, which with the 2010 vintage has become Le Volte dell’Ornellaia's backbone, couples perfectly with the structure and intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon. Joining these two noble French varietals is a splendid Tuscan Sangiovese that contributes its liveliness of character to the wine. The result, especially in the 2010 vintage, which will be remembered for being one of the latest ever, is a wine of great personality that displays all the integrity and the style of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia.
"After 18 months form the harvest," says Axel Heinz, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's Winemaker and Director of Production, "Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is soft in the glass, with great aromatic freshness, spicy accents, and considerable length. With every passing year it becomes more of an expression of the Tenuta, and it's nice to think that it provides a perfect opportunity to meet all those who would like to approach the world of Ornellaia."
The harvest of Le Volte dell'Ornellaia took place between mid September and October 12 2010, under clear sunlit skies that allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly. In general, cool temperatures allowed excellent development of the grapes' aromatic compounds, which translated into extremely fresh floral and fruity notes. After vinification, Le Volte dell'Ornellaia aged for 10 months in barriques previously used for Ornellaia.
Tenuta dell’Ornellaia. The Tenuta’s philosophy considers the birth of the wines to be the truest expression of their terroir. The grapes for Ornellaia are selected by hand, and picked in the estate's vineyards in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. The varying natures of the estate's terroirs, marine, alluvial and volcanic, are ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc ad Petit Verdot. The Estate extends over 97 hectares along the Tuscan coast, just a short distance from the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri and the famed cypress-lined avenue ‘Viale dei Cipressi’. The constant work of the team and the ideal microclimatic and geological characteristics have led the wines, in just twenty years. -- 1985 was the first vintage of Ornellaia -- to enjoy great international success. In 2001 the 1998 Ornellaia was declared Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator. In 2011 the German ‘Der Feinschmecker’ assigned Ornellaia its most sought-after award, the ‘Weinlegende’.
Tenuta dell’Ornellaia has received considerable recognition also in the national press, and is consistently ranked among the top estates by the Italian Wine Guides, including Gambero Rosso, Espresso, Veronelli, Duemilavini AIS, and Luca Maroni.
