High Scores in Wine & Spirits Magazine!

The influential Wine & Spirits Magazine has qualified with very high scores two of our wines!

The famous American magazine has become one of the top wine magazine in the world, analyzing more than 13.000 bottles every year. Wines are evaluated in a 1-99 points scale and only the 20% are qualified as "recommended" (more than 80 points).

Duette Cabernet Sauvignon- Carmenere 2013 obtained 91 points, entering the category of “exceptional examples of their type” wines. Critics said that “it’s unusual to find an Alto Maipo cabernet with the purity and freshness of this blend. Fruit predominates in the flavors, with herbal notes from carmenere that act as a vibrant seasoning. There’s no excess oak or extraction; rather, the wine is simple, completely Andean in its freshness”.

Gran Reserva Carignan 2012 obtained 89 points, entering the category of “highly recommended” wines.  Critics said that “This presents the fruit side of carignan, rather than playing up its earthiness. And it’s much lighter in structure than what’s typical of the variety in Chile”.

Casablanca Valley

Casablanca has become one of the main tourist spots for wine enthusiasts. It is located 18 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean and 64 kilometers from Santiago and is surrounded by the Coastal Range. Its cool climate features important temperature differences between day and night. The proximity of the ocean produces morning fogs almost every day. The soil has a clay texture and is rich in decomposed minerals brought in by the thaw waters of the Andes. Conditions in this valley are particularly suitable for white varieties as well as Pinot Noir.

Indómita’s winery in Casablanca overlooks the approximately 100 hectares of vineyards that produce Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Maipo Valley

The history of Chilean wine production begins in this valley located in the vicinity of Santiago and surrounded by the Andes and the Coastal Range. The area has a stable climate with warm days, cool nights and significant temperature differentials between day and night. Only the highlands of the valley are sometimes affected by frosts. This ensures the best ripening conditions for red wine grapes. The flat soil has an abundance of minerals, a sandy-clay texture and good drainage, and is irrigated by thaw waters.

The winegrowing region is divided into three main farming areas: Maipo Alto, Maipo Medio and Maipo Costa. Maipo Medio is the sunniest of the three. It lies at approximately 550 meters above sea level and is the place of choice for producing fruity and silky red wines. Further uphill, Maipo Alto has a cooler climate and produces wines with a firmer body and higher tannic structure. The lowest of the three appellations is Maipo Costa, located in the vicinity of the Coastal Range. The fresh ocean winds contribute to the production of enticingly acidic wines.

In this area, Indómita owns approximately 500 hectares of vineyards scattered in three properties.

Biobío Valley

Located some 500 kilometers south of Santiago, the area is cool and windy, even in summer. Annual precipitation reaches 1,100 mm. The soil is sandy and rocky, with an abundance of organic river deposits that make it rich and fertile. These conditions provide a favorable ground for noble varieties, which require a prolonged ripening period. The result is a variety of fresh wines of remarkable acidity, especially Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Winemaking

Despite its short history, Viña Indómita has become one of Chile’s leading wineries. Its imposing winery that dominates the Casablanca valley, its acclaimed restaurant and surprising wine tourism activities have elevated it to a benchmark position in the industry.

Its facilities can accommodate 27 million liters and are equipped with the latest technology to ensure the quality and safety of its products, the care for its people, and the respect for the environment and the communities in which it operates. From the vineyard until bottling, grapes and the resulting wine are closely monitored to ensure the best expression of our land.

Carved into the hill, its Barrel Room has naturally balanced temperature and humidity. With capacity for 2,500 oak barrels, its vertical construction allows transferring wine by gravity, which is a minimally invasive technique to ensure quality along the entire process.

Indómita has an imposing terrace that offers the best views to the valley and, for some, the best sunsets in Chile. It also has a spotless Tasting Room and an attractive Wine Shop, accessories and souvenirs.

In addition to marveling its visitors with unmatched views and offering tasting sessions, horseback riding and various tours, the Indómita experience includes one of the country’s finest restaurants under the supervision of the celebrated Chilean chef Tomás Olivera.
