History

This estate was founded by Albert Macquin (1852-1911), who studied viticulture at Paris-Grignon and Montpellier, and became a specialist in grafting and root stocks.

Saint-Émilion can be grateful to him for introducing grafted vines, which saved the vineyards from ruin by phylloxera in the late 19th century.

Vineyards

Château Pavie Macquin sits in the appellation of St. Emilion, close to the vineyards of Pavie, Pavie-Decesse and Troplong-Mondot. The name comes from Albert Macquin who was known for helping to solve the phylloxera epidemic, as his vines at Pavie Macquin were among the first to be grafted onto American rootstocks.
