The Story

Côte de Nuits in the year 640 AD as a monastic property. In 1219 it passed to the canons of Langres, who retained ownership until the Revolution of 1789. The name Chambertin has been used since the 13th century and once shared imperial approval with Clos de Bèze - Napoleon would drink nothing else. Written Notes

(these vines are now at least 90 years old, according to Dugat) Bright ruby-red. Wonderfully pure, perfumed nose offers kirsch, blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate. Almost shockingly creamy and silky on entry, then seamless but youthfully imploded in the middle palate, with a violet perfume giving the wine magical lift and grip and carrying through on the endless finish. An essence of pinot noir and of this great site. This incredibly concentrated wine offers a rare combination of size and finesse-and all with a moderate 12.9% alcohol. I found this nearly impossible to spit. 95-98
