The Story

“G-Max”. The G is named for his great grandfather, George, and Max, who is the younger of Klaus-Peter’s two sons (his older son also has a special bottling named for him, Klaus-Peter’s top pinot noir). Written Notes

The next wine we plucked off the list, a 2014 Keller Rielsing G-Max. Mr. Chalet had never had one, so I had to pop his G-Max cherry! Ok, that probably came out wrong lol, let’s get into the wine…the G-Max was so sweet in the nose, more so than usual, but it still possessed an amazing fruit medley. ‘Passionfruit,’ noted Mr. Chalet. It was round, lush and sweet with all the orange, peach, apricot, mango and ‘mochi fruit.’ The wine was super smooth and satiny but the acidity was buried alive by its fruit. This was a rich, decadent and round G-Max, perhaps a vintage that will give more pleasure sooner, although every bottle of G-Max gives pleasure. There’s another joke to be made in there somewhere (95).

Denn direkt neben dem Hubacker stand der 2014 G-Maxvon Keller, der wohl teuerste, trockene Weßwein Deutschlands und einer der teuersten, gesuchtesten dieser Erde. Leuchtende Augen überall am Tisch. Es schien, als ob einige der Teilnehmer von Geburt an auf nichts anderes gewartet hätten, einmal einen G-Max zu verkosten. Der war absolut blutjung, und um die Größe, die der mal entwickeln wird, zu erfassen, war schon viel Phantasie erforderlich. Irritierend etwas die extrem primärfruchtige Nase, Zitrus mit etwas Traubenzucker, am Gaumen schlank und rassig mit der dazugehörigen Säure, aber auch mit gewaltigem, aromatischem Druck, wie ein junger Rassehengst, der erstmals raus auf die Weide darf. Natürlich sehr beeindruckend, aber für mich heute WT94+, morgen WT96+ und in 15-20 Jahren in der Reife WT98+.
