Historia

The excellent wine producing job is something the Biatta family passes on from one generation to the next. Giovanni Biatta, the forefather of “Le Marchesine”, acquired in 1985 the first three hectares in the Franciacorta area. For at least five generations, though, the family has nurtured its one and only true passion: wine excellence. The Biatta family has very ancient origins from Brescia, its documented existence dates back to 1196, when Giovanni’s great-grandfather, Camillo Biatta, was négociant éleveur, an old noble profession passed from father to son., up to Giovanni.

“Le Marchesine”, small and innovative Franciacorta wine estate, is now one of the most prestigious companies in its league, and in full development in the lucky Lombard area. Under the expert guidance of his father Giovanni, Loris Biatta with his children Alice and Andrea, takes care of the vineyard and of the cellar. From its initial three hectares, the company vineyard has extended reaching 47 hectares, registered in the Doc and Docg lists. Most of the vines are grown on Guyot with 4000-4500 strains per hectares, the rest on Sylvoz with a slightly lower density, with 3200 strains. Even though it is perfectly in line with the productive guidelines dictated by the Franciacorta consortium, “Le Marchesine” as always distinguished itself for its innovative cultivation style, starting with abandoning the outdated pergula system, as soon as Giovanni bought the vineyards, and shortly after the import of the French techniques.

At present production is around 450.000 bottles per year, 230.000 of which are Franciacorta Brut and Extra Brut, 40.000 are Franciacorta Satèn, 30.000 vintage bottles from special years. And 10.000 bottles of vintage cru Secolo Novo. Add also 15.000 bottles of Curtefranca white and 15.000 bottles of Curtefranca red.

Mission is to produce a Franciacorta wine fresh, elegant, pleasant at drink, with great cleanliness and precision, respecting the Franciacorta raw materials and using the most modern production techniques. Today, production is about 450.000 bottles/year, 230.000 Franciacorta Brut and extra Brut, 40.000 Millesimato Rose', 40.000 Franciacorta Saten, 15.000 Curtefranca White and 15.000 Curtefranca Red, to which are added, only in great vintages, Millesimato 30.000 bottles, and 10.000 bottles of Millesimato CRU Secolo Novo.

The spearhead of production by Le Marchesine is Secolo Novo, a jewel of patience and dedication, born of a controlled fermentation at 17/18 ° with indigenous yeasts that mark the character, vinified only in great vintages, like those of 2002 and 2005. The grapes used in the production come from the most valuable for Franciacorta grapes,La Santissima hill. The temperature of the moraine hills, strong clay in soil and ventilation due to the nearby Alps make these unique grapes. The result in the glass is a fine and persistent perlage, almost creamy, pale yellow color with greenish reflections. The nose reveals a nuanced, and at the same time decided, scent of yeast, bread crust, accompanied by delicate notes of almonds, hazelnuts, dried figs and cloves. The taste sensation is marked by a pleasant flavor and freshness.

The company’s strength lies in various factors that aim and converge towards the best possible product. The philosophy of Le Marchesine goes even beyond a careful selection of the best roots to implant and the use of the same logs of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which are used in France. Le Marchesine’s philosophy is centered on technological innovation. The most evident example of this is the choice of the cellar’s mechanized pupitres (giropallets), which with a constant rotational movement, allow a possibly even higher result than with manual rotation. It is not by chance that the estate has a proud relationship with a very important institution of the Champagne region: the Champagne enological institute, of which the oenologist from Le Marchesine, Jean Pierre Valade, is a member himself.

The constant pursuit of excellence and Le Marchesine was honored with numerous awards over time; Secolo Novo 2005 was awarded with the 5 Clusters by "2000 Vini" Guide by AIS and "Three Glasses Plus" in "Guida Vini d'Italia" by Gambero Rosso; Secolo Novo 2005 also won the prize Sparkling win of the Year 2011. Franciacorta Brut Blanc de Blancs 2005, and the "Rose camuna d'argento" for excellence by Viniplus 2011 guide. In addition, Le Marchesine Rose' won Gold Medal Club 90 and Gilbert & Gaillard in 2006 .
