Wine Description
The Story
Piper-Heidsieck launched its new cuvée Essentiel in the UK in September 2017.
Essential uses the same base wines as the Non-Vintage brut, with the intention of reinforcing the characteristics of the house style. The wine will be aged an extra 12–18 months and has a lower dosage of 5g/l, compared to 9–10g/l for the NV Brut.
This lower dosage makes for a more food-friendly cuvée that maintains the principles of the Champagne house in a more elegant and refined way. The house describes the wine as, “bright, crisp and firm, playing host to welldefined white fruit flavours and an aromatic purity showing notes of citrus, grapes, crisp apple, almond, and salinity.”
Piper-Heidsieck has chosen to include a more detailed label designed to enhance the individuality of the wine, specifying disgorgement and cellaring dates, base vintage, and the proportion of reserve wine.
Camus commented on the new release: “I am proud of this Extra-Brut cuvée which symbolises the essence of our Champagnes. This extraaged and lower dosage wine is the pure expression of Piper-Heidsieck style: a structured, crisp and ardent wine.”
Alongside the new cuvée Piper-Heidsieck has launched a fresh look, with new packaging and trademark red label and collar, designed to embody a contemporary aesthetic.
