History
Boeri estate is located in a hamlet called Bionzo which belongs to the municipality of Costigliole d’Asti – a historical town in the province of Asti in the southern part of the Piemonte region. Costigliole d’Asti lies half way between the cities of Asti and Alba, the first one famous for its barbera and moscato, and the second for its white truffles. Only a few kilometers from Costigliole are the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco which are known for their homonymous wines.
In terms of winemaking areas, Boeri estate is positioned between the last hills of Monferrato and the first slopes of Langhe – a hilly area that is renowned for its breathtaking views, historical vineyards and natural beauty. Today Monferrato and Langhe are candidates for the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The history of Monferrato, the story goes, starts with Aleramo di Monferrato, a nobleman and a warrior, who had won a reputation of a “winegrower” among the Italian nobility. Aleramo’s origins were quite humble and his name gained fame only after he joined the army of Emperor Ottone I. Impressed by Aleramo’s valor on the battlefield, the emperor gave Aleramo the noble title of a Marchese and a piece of land. The size of this land was to be equal to a “marca”: an area whose circumference a horseman was able to cover in 3 days. And that is how Monferrato was born. The name itself most probably comes from monx ferrax – the fertile mountain.
