Historia

One of the world’s oldest winegrowing estates

Chateau Schloss Reinhartshausen has been a pillar of Rheingau wine culture for 680 years. Even today, the spirit of both past and present courses through our walls. All here breath Riesling! The original Chateau bottlings promise world-class quality, now and forever, from the heart of the Rheingau. We, the Lergenmüller family, honor and cherish our outstanding vineyard sites by respecting the flora and fauna that thrive there. Following each selective harvest, our task is merely to preserve and guide the outstanding fruit arriving from the vineyards. Traditionally considered among the most cellarable bottles in all of the Rheingau, we are honored to give our wines the time necessary to mature. We hope you enjoy our distinctive, harmonious, and terroir-driven Riesling as much as we do.

Dr. Karin and Stefan Lergenmüller with family and team

A visit at the Chateau is always a joy, whether it’s a spontaneous stop by the vinothek, an event or as guest at Schloss Schänke restaurant. Beyond the inviting vinothek, which offers both the Chateau wines and other diverse delicacies and accessories, Rheinhartshausen has a variety of other surprises in store: Lovely rooms for all types of celebrations and events, a large, historic wine cellar and Mariannenaue Island.

ONE OF A KIND, FORGED FROM THE ELEMENTARY POWER OF RIVER RHINE

Mariannenaue, an island on the Rhine River, is a designated European Nature Reserve and, since 2015, a protected appellation for quality wine.

Roughly 10,000 years ago, Father Rhine shaped Mariannenaue Island with his powerful currents, forming a limestone bedrock from sand and stones carried down from the Alps. Thanks to the island’s striking location directly in the middle of the Rhine, an extraordinary micro climate fosters optimal conditions for grape growing. 24 hectares of Weißburgunder, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Roter Riesling thrive in our stunning vineyards, leading to fantastic and distinctive wines that beautifully reflect their unmistakable home.

GEOPRAPHIC LOCATION

The Rhine Island of Mariannenaue was named in 1902 for Princess Marianne of Prussia. It sits in the middle of the river, across from the Rheingau town of Erbach. Vineyard space is inherently limited and quantities are perpetually small, but these conditions allow the winegrower to focus uncompromisingly on care and craftsmanship.

Origin matters: “The narrower the origin of a wine, the higher its quality”

This motto is the bedrock of the Rheinhartshausen philosophy and allows us to structure our wine portfolio in a straight forward and approachable manner. With its strict implementation of site-based classification, Schloss Reinhartshausen continually raises the bar for what a Riesling can be.

Already the Schlossweineoriginate from first and grand cru sites in Erbach (Michelmark and Steinmorgen) and Hattenheim (Hassel and Engelmannsberg) . They start where others already stop. Hence the “Schloss Weine” excel all expectations and adumbrate the extraordinary quality of the assortment.

Our wineries pride are the traditional and world famous single vinyards of the central Rheingau:

Erbach Schlossberg, Erbach Marcobrunn, Erbach Siegelsberg, Erbach Hohenrain, Hattenheim Nussbrunnen, Hattenheim Wisselbrunnen.

Every wine Grand Crus shows its unique profile, preserved through the reduction of cellar technology, patience and precision. The Riesling monuments are exceptional in the whole world and not reproduceable.

Viinivalmistus

Schloss Reinhartshausen’s two Grand Cru Riesling sites are considered among the finest anywhere in the world. The terroir-driven presence of the Rieslings has been a draw over many decades. With a sense of humility and honor, Chateau Schloss Reinhartshausen sets the benchmark here for what Riesling can be …
