Don PX 1965 is another of those wonders that Bodegas Toro Albalá leaves us in its elaborations under the protection of the DO Montilla Moriles. A wine made from Pedro Ximénez grapes (monovarietal), with traditional raisining and winemaking techniques, an artisanal, manual, exhaustive process that makes it a truly unique wine. A wine aged in American oak barrels.
A wine that no matter the vintage, it is always extraordinary, with unique vintages, such as this one from 1965. A vintage that is not as sweet as others I have had the pleasure of tasting, which makes it more personal and divinely charming.
It also has a very good acidity that helps to give it a long persistence.
In view a very dark iodized color, at times almost black, very covered, with a surprising brilliance and a movement in the glass that leaves us an incredible tear.
Nose tremendously complex, very high intensity, as we approach the nose aromas of dark chocolate, hints of coffee, contributions to bitter orange, cigar box, snuff, licorice, a large set of spices. After aerating it, the aromas mentioned above intensify and a light balsamic background is very well perceived. Aromatically speaking, a perfect balance.
And on the palate, this Don PX 1965 is really spectacular, since a relatively smooth entry is followed by a silky, velvety, ample passage, ending with a slight bitter finish that gives it a touch of enormous depth. The spicy touches, chocolates, light nuts,... return. Perfect volume on the palate. A very long finish.
A truly spectacular wine that achieves the rating of Exceptional.
