History

As was typical of the southern Palatinate region, our family has run a mixed use farm for many generations, with vineyards, some animals, a still and apple, pear, plum, cherry and mirabelle trees. In the middle of the 20th century, it became apparent that our soils and slopes at the edge of the Palatinate Forest offered excellent growing conditions for outstanding wines. Ever since then, wine making has been our profession as well as our passion. In 1973, Friedrich Becker Sr. filled the first bottles with the fox on the label, which became, in a very short time, our trademark. For old friends of our wines, and now for many wine connoisseurs around the world, this label stands for unique wines with uncompromisingly high quality. Over the years, many of our wines, especially our Pinot Noirs, have been consistently recognized as among the best in the Palatinate region and all of Germany. Our company is a member of the VDP and rated one of Germany's top wineries by Gault Millau (four out of five grape bunches).

Our goal is simple yet ambitious: to create the best possible wines from our outstanding soil and terroir.  To achieve this goal, a winemaker has to be in tune with nature.  To us, the wealth of creation is not merely the basis of our work, but an inspiration.  Every year we are presented with new challenges and  unique requirements that inform the personality of each vintage - this is what motivates and leads us on a path of continuous learning.  The sum of all insights throughout the decades has enabled us to create some truly outstanding wines - for that we are thankful, and we will continue to strive to perfect our craft.

Vineyards

Thanks to the geological catastrophe. It had collapse the `Rhine Graben´ and on the break-off edge the mountain peaks of the Palatinate forest were transported upwards. It came with a row of deep stone layers which are basis for our vines. Now, around Schweigen we are having massive layers of shell limestone. Fortunately for us, because it´s characterising the taste picture our wines. But there is another reason that the mountain landscape is a stroke of luck for us. It´s lying protective as a rejecting wall against west. This is mainly responsible for the compensated mild climate in this wine growing region.

Winemaking

We do what we can do in perfection: fruity and lively wines. A prerequisite for this are the best, highly ripe grapes from income reduced vineyards. Every row, our seasoned team selecting them and acting with consideration until they are in the wine press. We know that we hold a prospective wine character in our hands. It is our mission to interpret it and produce every single wine individually. The musts are starting the fermentation in the steel tanks. We accompanied this natural fermentation process with required silence and ideal duration. The aim is to explore the richness of the grape variety aromes and to survive the local characteristics. But giving our wines the freshness and vitality as well. Special ripe, promising grapes are treated in a different way. We give them maceration and produce from young oak barrels. In the future, after prolonged storage, we will have highly complex, sophisticated wines.
