The Cooperativa Agrícola Els Guiamets was founded in 1913. At this present time is constituted by 42 associated with 150 hac. of vineyards. The production or our wines is combined by traditional methods and high technology, but always keeping the touch of the artisan work.
The first point of control is made at the vineyard days before the harvest. Different controls of quality and maturity are made to choose the best of the hole production. The pick up is made manually, because of the small size o the vineyards as well as the orographic characteristics, makes very difficult to do it with the use of machinery.
The fermentation is made in stainless steal tanks. The temperature on each tank is controlled automatically with the use of a modern refrigeration system.
Some part of the wine is for the production of young wines, and the wine obtained form the best quality vineyards is used to produce the "Crianza" wines.
Red wines are aged on French Allier and American oak barrels during a period of time of 11 or 12 months. This barrels are located underground, maintaining in a natural way the best conditions to keep wine (temperature, humidity) that are needed for the ageing.
The winery is well located on the south of the Priorato area; province of Tarragona.
The wines that are produced on this area are rated D.O. Montsant. This D.O. was created on the year 2001. Like a ring, the territory of the D.O. is located in the middle of the Priorato area, except of some lands right next of the Ebro river.
The Mediterranean weather with continental characteristics. Rains are very rare and the variations in temperature are very often. The ground is mostly terrazzo but also you can find some lime stones.
Most of the vineyards are old. The wine has very low production, and a characteristic that defines the Montsant wines that makes them so special.
