The Story

Since 1983, Denis Durantou has been at the helm of this historic estate. He has quietly performed something of a revolution, introducing a host of innovations and bringing his wine-making philosophy to one of the greatest terroirs in Bordeaux. The 4.5 hectares used for the grand vin are situated next to the church in Pomerol on gravel and clay soils. A further 1.5 hectares of on sandy soils account for the excellent Petite Eglise.

Wine Information

Pomerol / St Emilion / Olivier Berouet of Ch Petrus describes 2016 as “a vintage that is only comparable to itself.” The clay substrata played an important role in maintaining sufficient soil moistures. Bordeaux 2016 in review “A paradox”

Written Notes

L’Eglise Client - Truffles, wet earth, smoke, tobacco, licorice, espresso, chocolate covered black cherry and plum aromatics create the perfume. The wine is full bodied, concentrated and powerful. It is also refined, silky, elegant and velvety. This is Pomerol opulence at its best, with the right amount of flesh and freshness to balance everything out. 99 Pts

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Opulent nose with excellent aroma reminiscent of ripe plums, black cherries, violets with spicy hints of liquorice in the background. On the palate perfectly structured and ripe tannins, freshness and great length, a wine with monumental elegance. A lot of power, but quite hidden. 97

Deep ruby. Dark fruits, some spices, liquorice, blackberries, exotic notes, richer and layered, has depth. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, sweet fruit, blueberries, coffee, blackberries, some spices, intense, deeper, vanilla, structured, long. 95-97
