Matarromera Prestigio 2013 get a gold medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
One of the highest-quality wines from the Matarromera winery, Matarromera Prestigio 2013, has won a Gold Medal at the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. It has not been the only medal the wine group has won for its wines. The Emina winery won a silver medal with its Emina Reserva 2012 and the wines of Carlos Moro Family Wines have won two silver medals, for Rento 2014 from the DO Ribera del Duero and “CM By Carlos Moro 2015”, the new wine from the Carlos Moro winery in the DOLa Rioja.
The Ribera winery has also recently obtained international recognition for its most exclusive wine, Matarromera Pago de las Solanas 2010, which the US magazine Wine Enthusiast awarded 94 points in the “Buying Guide” that has already been published online and will be printed in July.
Carlos Moro founded Bodega Matarromera in 1988 and its first vintage, Matarromera 1994 was born a winner. It obtained the important Gran Medalla de Oro award at the International Wine Competition, thus becoming the best wine in the world and achieving great national and international fame and prestige. Over these almost 30 years, Carlos Moro has managed to produce high-end wines of great recognition in the eight wineries located in the Denominations of Origin Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Toro, Cigales and, since 2014, also in the Denomination of Qualified Origin Rioja with Bodega Carlos Moro.
Wine Description
The Story
Matarromera Prestigio is the product of grapes from old vineyards on the Pago de las Solanas estate. It is only made in those years when the grapes and the vintage achieve the quality demanded by Bodega Matarromera.
For nine months it is aged in French barrels from Allier, after which it is racked to continue its aging for another nine months in new American oak barrels. Aging in bottles is extended to 24 months in dark, heavy, truncated bottles with a natural stopper. Grapes rigorously selected from old vineyards. The wine spends 18 months in barrels in the two most iconic oaks: nine months in American wood and another nine in French wood, with different degrees of charring. Matarromera Prestigio has an excellent balance with spicy aromas coming from the time spent in barrels. It maintains an intense cherryred colour, crisp and bright. Its bouquet is potent, rich in toasted subtleties with a background of very ripe black fruit. It has a powerful structure of sweet tannins with a long finish. All this adds up to a wine that is both truly stylish and modern in its profile.
