Vintage 2016

SPAIN 2016 will be remembered for the piles of grapes thrown to the ground in Rioja. Our most renowned wine region, as well as Navarra and most appellations in Castilla y León, registered very high yields in sharp contrast with Mediterranean wine regions where drought led to below-average production levels. The gloomy picture came from Ribeira Sacra in Galicia where severe hail hit the area of Doade in August and destroyed 400,000 kilos of gra...

Written Notes

A wine this Marqués de Murrieta Reserva 2016 is made with 80% Tempranillo, and the rest with Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha. The aging of this wine is 18 months in American oak barrels.

In the visual phase we have in the glass a wine that leaves us an intense cherry cherry color, very clean and with a medium to high layer.

Good intensity in terms of aromatic power, with a predominance of fruit, both red and black, with hints of stewed fruit from the contributions of the barrel. Herbaceous background together with spicy touches from the aging, hints of wood, leather and tobacco, all in very good balance.

This Marqués de Murrieta Reserva has a powerful entry on the palate, with a very good union of fruit and aging, leaving a very round wine on the palate. The tannins are very well worked, leaving sensations of silkiness and elegance on the palate. Very well managed acidity and very good persistence. Quite long aftertaste.

In my opinion it is a very good wine, ideal reflection of the elaborations of this winery, more modern style, but knowing how to preserve the essence of the Rioja tradition.
