Written Notes

From Margaret River, the famous classic West Aussie blend has rarely been done better than the wines offered by CM. Spice, citrus and a touch of nettle. These two varieties fit together like a hand in a glove. Good persistence here and a lovely clean finish. Should drink well for several more years. These styles have been pushed out of the market by the Sauvalanche but they deserve better.

Score: 89/100

Best drinking: now for three years.

Pale straw yellow with a green hue.Sauvignon shines through, with notes of juniper berries and cracked black pepper, followed by white grapefruit, lychee and jasmine.

This wine is slightly saline, with flavours of passionfruit, citrus, ginger and gentian bitters. A fresh acidity and minerality are well balanced by honey notes and a creamy texture.

An excellent harvest in 2016, complemented by meticulous work in the vineyards, produced a characterful blend. This wine, 57% sauvignon blanc and 43% semillon from vineyards in the cooler half of the Margaret River region, underwent extended fermentation, mainly in stainless steel tanks, with 8% in new oak barrels. It spent four months on lees and was bottled unfiltered.
