Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Part of the garagiste efforts from Jonathan Malthus, Les Asteries is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 reveals spicy, oaky aromas intermixed with scents of chocolate, blackberries, espresso roast, and graphite. This thick, juicy, modern-styled St.-Emilion offers impressive concentration, purity, and depth in its flamboyant personality. Very impressive! Anticipated m...

The Story

This leading Grand Cru Classé estate, Château Teyssier is celebrated around the world for its imitable handcrafted fine-wines. Progressively growing in size and quality since the 1700s, this wine-producing tract is now the flagship property and residence of Englishman Jonathan Maltus and his family. Purchased in 1994, right in the middle of the pivotal garage movement, the Saint-Émilion château gained recognition for their oenological technolo...

Wine Information

This Single Vineyard wine is made from a single hectare on 'Astéries' (rock limestone) soil between Château Fonroque and Clos Fourtet. The vines survived the frost of 1956 and are up to eighty years old. Unlike most of the wines of the C...

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

Tasting note

Written Notes

Dark, ruby red colour. Refined, spicy nose with ripe red plums, cassis and violets. Full-bodied, bit overpowering fine-grained tannins, good intensity and vibrancy. Chunky tannins. Moderately long intense finish with new oak and ripe jammy black fruits. Bit robust in style. Peaks in 2022-20225. To enjoy now, decant for 2-3 hours and serve at 17-18°C. Great match for medium-rare steaks with fries and aioli! JL 92p (4/2019)
