The Story

Imperial is one of the great names in Spanish winemaking. It is a true classic in Rioja and was first made in the 1920’s. Its name comes from a special bottling for the English market made in a bottle size of a ‘Pinta Imperial’ or ‘Imperial Pint’ which is approximately equivalent to half a litre.

Aging in cask 24 moths and aging in bottle 36 moths before going to market. The grapes for Imperial Reserva come from our best and oldest vineyard...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is ruby red, and looking clear and medium. On the nose it is mature, rich and complex. The taste is elegant, round, voluptuous, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with perfectly balanced structure and mature. On the palate it is layered and has cherry, pepper, earthy, coffee, cigar-box, smoky, leather and licorice flavours. The finish is long and spicy. This wine is excellent. I paid around 30-50€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 5-10€ years, decant at least 45min before tasting and this is not a good invest wine. Good value for money. I do recommend.
