The Story

Since 1988 they produce nearly every year a Vinothekfüllung of Grüner Veltliner, which has been accompanied by a Riesling since 2000. Both of the Vinothekfüllungen could be defined as dry Auslesen but sweet Auslesen and Prädikatswein also count among the Knolls’ repertoire, and one should certainly sample these essences.

The Emmerich Knoll Riesling 'Vinothekfüllung' Smaragd 2017 casts a mesmerizing spell in the glass, displaying a radiant, pale golden hue reminiscent of sun-kissed apricots. Its luminous clarity captures the essence of the Austrian terroir from which it hails.

The wine's aromatic journey commences with a captivating and layered bouquet that beckons exploration. The nose offers a symphony of fragrances, led by the enticing scent of ripe orchard fruits. Notes of succulent apricots, honeyed peaches, and luscious pears blend seamlessly, evoking the essence of a bountiful orchard in full bloom.Hints of fragrant white blossoms, including acacia and orange blossom, add an ethereal floral dimension to the aromatic tapestry. 

 On the palate, it showcases an exquisite balance of richness and precision. Flavors of ripe apricots and juicy nectarines take center stage, accompanied by the zesty brightness of Meyer lemon and a hint of tangerine zest. The fruit's opulence is harmoniously counterbalanced by a vibrant, spine-tingling acidity that animates the palate.

The wine's finish is a prolonged reverie of flavors and sensations. It gracefully lingers, echoing the wine's hallmark acidity and mineral character. A fine flinty minerality, reminiscent of wet river stones, provides a structured and refreshing conclusion to this exceptional Riesling.
