The Story

To mark the centenary of the presentation of the first prestigious cuvée by Piper-Heidsieck to Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France, the House produced a limited series of bottles in 1885: La Cuvée du Centenaire (the centenary vintage). This could be considered as the origin of Rare Champagne. In honour of the occasion, Pierre-Karl Fabergé, jeweler to the Czar Alexander III, designed a spectacular enamelled bottle. Unfortunately, it was impossibl...

Wine Information

Our fourth rosé vintage, Rare Rosé Millésime 2014 sweeps you up in a whirlwind of aromas evoking a sophisticated feminine fragrance. The wine’s sensory eccentricity enhances the expressive palette of Rare Champagne.

“When I tasted Rare Rosé Millésime 2014, I was struck by its whirlwind of different aromas. Its unexpected, eccentric and generous nature draws many parallels with the Maison’s first rosé, Rare Rosé Millésime 2007.

Vintage 2014

This year was all about alternating weather patterns. A particularly wet winter gave way to a warm and dry spring. May saw some rain, and even though late June-brought about a minor heatwave, the remainder of the summer was moist and murky. Disease pressure was lifted but once again fine, hot September weather was able to save and concentrate the crop. A large crop (11,553 kg/ha) was picked from September 8th onwards. The year's biggest proble...

Written Notes

A mesmerizing pale coral-pink with radiant golden highlights, accompanied by a delicate stream of fine, persistent bubbles.

The bouquet is a symphony of elegance and complexity. Wild strawberries, red currants, and blood orange zest are beautifully interwoven with floral notes of rose petals and jasmine. Subtle hints of pink peppercorn and toasted almonds add depth and intrigue.

On the palate, Rare Rosé 2014 is a seamless blend of vivacity and refinement. Juicy red berries and candied citrus are lifted by a vibrant acidity, while layers of honeyed brioche and chalky minerality provide a luxurious texture. The finish is long and sophisticated, with whispers of saffron, peach skin, and a delicate salinity.

An enchanting rosé champagne that exudes grace, complexity, and precision. Rare Rosé 2014 is exquisite now but holds the promise of even greater glory with age.

Rare Rosé 2014 / Magnum. Mid orangey salmon colour – dilute Campari? – much deeper than many rosés. Not that much nose but on the palate it is really deliciously balanced and very fruity with pomegranate notes – with less bitterness on the end than many rosé champagnes. It will probably develop more interest on the nose with time in bottle but it drinks beautifully now. Long. One of those wines that builds towards the appetisingly dry finish. Rather scrumptious.

Inside Information

The Tiara

Rare Champagne modernized the original shape of the Pinte Majeure and added a golden lace crown that asserts the radiance of the wine. The House took its inspiration from its historical records, referencing the allegory of the triumphant vine, and transformed it into a unique tiara that underlines the personality of this exceptional champagne. Arthus-Bertrand, the famous French goldsmith house, was commissioned to design it.

Indeed, whatever the whims of the weather, vines always continue to blossom. Nature offers grapes year-after-year, remaining victorious. Then, thanks to his vision and expertise, the cellar master sublimates what nature has provided.
