The Story

Attention and dedication at every step, from its birth in the vineyard, to its transformation in the cellar, to its maturation in oak.

Only the healthiest, absolutely perfect clusters of Sangiovese are destined for Giodo’s Brunello di Montalcino. The wine’s maturation—a full two and a half years—takes place in 700-litre French oak casks, followed by a further 18 months in the bottle, a period of time that is essential for producing a Giodo ...

Written Notes

Delicate and juicy in the primary profile the Giodo 2016 exciting from the start with its subtle and shy presentation which hides the intoxicating complexity hoped for. The mixed floral and fruit scents turn in different directions melting into notes of dried chamomile, withered hibiscus and elderflower. The main core is rich in raspberries, blackcurrants and pomegranate joined with fresh ginger, almond and cedar chippings. Full bodied, graceful, rich silky tannins and a centred finish. Perfectly in line with the producer’s vision of elegance. Better from 2022.

A wine project of great substance behind a bottle of extraordinary intensity that benefits from a light maceration on the skins. Alcohol-infused marasca cherries and fresh bay leaf on the nose. The mouth is crunchy, dense with salty tannins. A balsamic note reappearing on the finish.

Ruby red colour with slightly purple hue. Well-structured and fragrant nose, initially slightly closed, with aroma reminiscent of mild spices, balsam herbs, blueberries, mulberries and dried figs, a hint of cedar-wood and vanilla in the background. Slightly smoky and balmy compounds in the background adding to this wine's complexity. On the palate a perfectly balanced wine with impressing purity, polished tannins, fine acidity, excellent mouthfeel and great depth of flavour. Dark berries, dark chocolate and mild spices lingering in the elegant yet almost never ending aftertaste. A magic wine, close to perfection.
