Written Notes

Black heart, vibrant edge. Some attractive and concentrated fruit. Notes of cold tea, spices, black fruits and dark chocolate. Some austerity that perhaps is more reflective of the vintage, in retrospect, than of the style. The cold tea notes are quite pronounced. This was a pleasant wine that perhaps drank even better than one might have expected, given the vintage issues, but in all honesty, it is perhaps with a little tongue-in-cheek that Steve Pannell included it in his submissions (he also pushed, or perhaps smashed, the 'one red/one white' limit for wine entries, but we let him get away with it). Enjoyable as it might have been, it fell well short of his other wines, which were crackers.
