The Story

Over the centuries Warre's has made memorable wines which have earned for it First Growth status alongside a very small group of other elite producers. Written Notes

Decanted just before serving. Very brown but still a hint of red, a brown red bowl with a yellow rim. At first it was a little closed but it was bound to open up. Nuts on the nose. Indeed, it did open up and developed into glorious nose of old wood. Then after a couple of hours the nose developed a more sleepy subdued character. On the palate, very velvety and smooth with a very hot finish. Extraordinary after taste in back of throat. Still fairly sweet but a bit dry on the third palate and finish. Remarkably good condition. Nuts, very sweet. It was to me the star of the tasting until the Fonseca 1927 developed in the glass. The 1896 had huge length, richness and was not drying out at all. Very long. I would have guessed it to be a 1950! As it developed in the glass it became more silky and velvety and kept getting better for the duration of the evening. *****
