Yalumba The Octavius has established a reputation as one of Australia's icon Shiraz wines, an amazing feat considering the first release was the 1990 vintage. In addition to being sourced from a number of very old vineyards in the Barossa, The Octavius is matured in American and French oak 'octaves' of 100 litre capacity. The 1998 vintage in the Barossa was nothing short of outstanding. Near-perfect growing conditions saw grapes achieve maximum ripeness and flavour. Yalumba's The Octavius 1998 was once again sourced from dry grown old bushvines that produced low crops (1-2 tonne/acre) of intensely rich and powerful Shiraz fruit. The resulting wine is dense red in colour with a complex nose of spice, pepper, fruitcake, coffee bean, violet and vanillin toasty ...
