The Bernard family has lived in Orange since the 17th century. Originally tenant farmers, the Bernard’s were to profit from the social upheavals of the French Revolution, buying their first vineyard soon after the conflict in 1794. This vineyard is still present today. Since 1971, Michel Bernard, with his wife Dominique, run the vineyard which they have since developed. Vineyards

We have 3 types of Terroir at Château Beauchêne : 
- alluvial terraces with large pebbles of quartz stones mixed with sandy red clay (for our Chateauneuf du Pape, and our Côtes du Rhône Premier Terroir) 
- Quaternary alluvium stony terraces (for our Côtes du Rhône Villages and Cotes du Rhone Grande Reserve) 
- sandy and stony soil hills reworked (for our Côtes du Rhône Grande Reserve)

Winemaking

Partly buried, the vinification cellar houses 33 temperature controlled stainless steel tanks (5000hl in total). An extended period of fermentation gives the “vin de garde” a greater intensity, thanks to the extraction and balance of the polyphenols (it is in the polyphenols we find the elements of the red wine which are good for your health.) The old, vaulted cellar offers the ideal temperature to age the wines in barriques, foudres and demi ...
