Before being taken over by the Despujols family in 1961, the property exchanged proprietors over the years and never really stabilized. Today, with the vineyard in the hands of the skillful Despujols and their 50 years of experience in producing Sauternes, one of the most challenging wines to produce in the world, they have their sites set on the 21st century. With a trend leaning towards more rewarding vintages each decade and a renaissance in the heritage of Sauternes, Chateau Lamothe remains one of the classic expressions of a fruit forward and balanced Sauternes, as well as, consistently being noted as one of the great values in the appellation.
