All of our vineyards are on historical sites in Wagram, a widely visible terrace of glacial loess. The soil therefore consists of loess, but also sandstone and tertiary gravel.
Ried Mordthal, the site name "Mordthal" probably comes from an old term for a narrow valley without an exit, which was used during the Stone Age as a strategic hunting aid. Here, the hunters cornered mammoths and killed them, as documented by many bone findings.
Wines: Roter Veltliner Ried Mordthal, Grüner Veltliner Ried Mordthal (from autumn 2018), Roter Traminer Große Reserve
Ried Himmelreich is the highest point in the village of Zaussenberg, where our winery is located. Many vineyards were given their old names based on their altitude: "Plafond (Ceiling)", "Gloria (Glory)", "Engelberg (Angel’s Mount)" and also "Himmelreich", which means "at the top".

Ried Schlossberg is a pure loess site, whose name refers to the mountain behind Winkelberg Castle in Mitterstockstall. It is the local mountain of the castle, so to speak. One of the best locations with an almost Pannonian influence, which makes the style of Wagram Grüner Veltliner from loess, which is called baroque by some, so unique.
Wines: Grüner Veltliner Ried Schlossberg
Ried Steinberg is one of the largest, but also one of the best locations in Wagram.
Josef Fritz: "For me, it’s the ideal location for Roter Veltliner: dry and hot, just what this indigenous variety needs. Nowhere else does it thrive as well and as healthily as here."
The name comes from the stony sandy soil, which alternates with loess here. At the foot of the mountain, loess dominates and merges further up into sandy loess over a stony subsoil. Tertiary gravel dominates at the top, almost 370 metres above sea level. Steinberg is one of the very highest sites in Wagram.
Wines: Roter Veltliner Ried Steinberg, Roter Veltliner Ried Steinberg Privat, Riesling Ried Steinberg (from autumn 2018), Grüner Veltliner Sandstein, Pinot Blanc Reserve, Chardonnay Große Reserve, Zweigelt Reserve
Riede Schafberg is one of the highest single sites of the Wagram. The ground consists of fine sand crossed with gravel. The north-eastern orientation and the prevailing wind guarantee a long growing season of the grapes, moderate gradations and therefore predestined the Schafberg for light, fresh and very mineral wines.
