Chianti Classico – Isole e Olena
“Isole e Olena” was originally two estates, Isole and Olena, which were joined together as one after the De Marchi family purchased them in the 1960's. The oldest documents from these estates are from Olena, which date back to the 12th century. Isole was already an agriculture farm as early as in the 18th century. This estate is actually the main house when it comes to the production of Isole e Olena.
When De Marchi bought the estate they planted new vines and expanded the cellars. Paolo, who took over the management of the estate in 1976, has acquired much of his wine knowledge from his family estate in Piemonte, where they have cultivated wine for three generations. His philosophy was to establish the winery as one of the forerunners in Chianti. Under his supervision the light Chianti became a fuller-bodied wine, more suitable for cellar ageing. His attention to detail in both the vineyard and the winery was the driving force that turned quality around.
