History

Undaunted by the passage of time, two sphinxes flank the entrance, serenely watching over the spirit of the wine… Nestling discreetly in the shadow of Château Barreyres, an impressive building dating back to the 19th century, we find the winery, guarded this time by silent statues, Greeks and Romans who watch patiently over the production of this highly distinctive wine.

But beyond the stones and the gravel, the marble and the oaks, the sphinx and the statues, we see the people. These are the real guardians of the spirit of the Médoc, those who ensure that the famous tradition of elegance and finesse will never be lost.

Nestled in the heart of the Médoc between Arcins and the Gironde, the vineyards of Château Barreyres are planted on a clay and sandy gravel soil, and slope gently down
towards the estuary. It is a distinctive terroir, and one which gives this Haut Médoc Cru Bourgeois a very distinctive, feminine character.
