I Veroni

In the Middle Ages the vineyard and farmland of I Veroni formed part of the extensive feudal estates, in the Arno valley, of the Conti Guidi family. At that time the Fattoria was dominated by a watch tower, now in ruins. The present farm buildings are a blend of centuries old structures and contemporary additions. The first stone wine fermentation tank was built in 1809. Parts of this are still visible in the original cellars.

The planting of new vineyards in 1998 was undertaken with the express purpose of growing specialist vines; the aim was an average planting of 90% Sangiovese variety at a density of no less than 5.000stumps/ha. The winecellar is located into the historical villa of I Veroni at the entrace of Pontassive (FI) just 10 km from Florence. The old rooms are still used to hospite the production of wine. The firsts steps in winemaking in the old cellar are from the 1809, and in 2004 the rooms were restructurated and today the contain oak cask, barrels and steel tanks used for the fermentation and ageind the wine.
