History

The Weegmüllers, an old noble family from Zurich, emigrated from Switzerland to the Rhineland Palatinate in 1657. The family began producing wine in 1685. In 1737, the Weegmüllers settled in Haardt, a village close to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Haardt, also known as ‘the balcony of the Palatinate’ offers breathtaking views over the Rhine Valley. Almonds, lemons, figs and unique vines can all be found growing on this sunny terrace of Germany....

Vineyards

Situated in the shelter of the Palatinate Forest ridge, 90% of the vineyards belong to the classified locations in the Palatine, as qualified by the 1828 Royal Bavarian Land Tax terroir classification. Vineyards in the Bürgergarten, Mandelring and Herzog layers thrive on red sandstone weathered soils . The Herrenletten vineyard sits on a deep bed of clay, with a limestone mix on top.

Winemaking

Ecological awareness and a willingness to understand natural processes and work with them form the basis for the production of great wines. Reducing harvest levels by thinning the growing grapes and by selective harvesting are the key principles used at the Weegmüller winery, in order to produce high quality wines.
