The Story

Terroir Soils are gravelous,  either mixed with clay or with sand. This soil composition, combined with an exceptional exposure, confers all the typicity, elegance and finesse to château rouget wines.

Grape Varieties 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc

Planting Density 3 000 vines per acre / 7 500 vines per hectare

Average Age of Vines 40 years

Soil ManagemenVineyards are farmed sustainably, using practices such as cover crops and ploughing.

Harvests Grapes are manually picked and carefully transported in small 20 kg crates. Harvest occurs in several steps, in order to secure an optimal maturity level. Bunches are sorted a first time as soon as they arrive in the cellar. Then, once the grapes are fully destemmed, they go through another double sorting table.

Winemaking and Ageing Grapes are vinified batch by batch, in oak or stainless steel vats, then aged for 18 months in oak barrels (33% new). The wine is fined traditionally, using fresh egg white. This vintage was bottled on a fruit day according to the lunar calendar, to allow the wine to express itself fully.

Vintage 2020

In Bordeaux, the heat led to early flowering. Additionally, this led to an early harvest after a very hot summer. As a starting point, there is great maturity in the grapes, and we can expect a more opulent vintage than in recent years.

This year's summer was the hottest since 1959, but the rain fell at just the right time during the growing season. The harvest took place two weeks before the norm and will produce grapes with high alcohol potential and the lowest acidity since the 2003 vintage. As they say in Bordeaux: “It was a good and extreme growing season which , hopefully, also produces great wines.”

Written Notes

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Elegant yet persistent nose with aroma reminiscent of blackberries, black cherries, mild spices, discreet toasting and hints of violets. On the palate noble character with ripe tannins, elegant acidity, adding freshness and creating a pleasant tension, backed by juicy fruit and discreet spiciness. A Pomerol with excellent length.

  • 95p

Rouget - very aromatic and intense nose of dark berries, compact, delicate complexity, splendid structure and depth, luscious fruit and grained tannin. Persistent finish. Impressive effort. 94p.
