Written Notes

Medium-deep ruby with garnet rim. A refined and slightly reserved nose opens gradually to reveal Black currants and dark berry compote, toasty oakiness with subtle vanilla and underlined cedar. Touch of pencil shavings, adding a Bordeaux-like nuance. The bouquet is quietly expressive, with depth that unfolds over time. Palate is full and rounded, with a silky texture, jammy fruit core balanced by gently firm tannins and ripe black fruits, cedar spices, and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long and harmonious, with a polished grip and lingering warmth. A wine of understated power and finesse—ideal for Grilled Venison Loin with Blackcurrant–Cedar Jus. The wine drinks well now but will evolve for next 4-6 years. If served now, decant for 3 hours and serve at 17-18C from Riedel Veloce Cabernet glass. – JL 95p (Nov 2024)

The 2010 vintage at Levy & McClellan’s estate in Napa Valley is widely regarded as one of their most powerful and expressive releases, shaped by an exceptional growing season and meticulous winemaking. The vintage was ideal with a long, temperate growing season. Warm days and cool nights allowed for slow, even ripening. The yields were low generating concentrated fruit with deep flavor intensity. Due to the vintage, the wine gained an extended barrel aging of 26 months in French oak. This helped integrate tannins and build sumptuous richness.
