The 2020 growing season and harvest occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. The weather was favourable, even if the sanitary situation was not. A multitude of unique labour and logistical issues required solving to get the vineyard work and grape picking complete. A well-structured, classic vintage expression from House Montaudon—traditionally led by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—capturing the warm, generous, and beautifully ripe conditions of the 2020 harvest.
The nose is inviting and fruit-driven, opening with yellow apple, poached pear, and ripe nectarine, swiftly complemented by sweet autolytic notes of freshly baked brioche, lemon curd, raw almond, and a subtle undertone of damp chalk. On the palate, the wine enters with a soft, supple texture and a creamy, persistent mousse. The core of ripe stone fruit and candied citrus expands nicely across the mid-palate, kept lively and refreshed by a balanced, vibrant vein of crisp acidity. It concludes with a clean, dry, and pleasingly savory finish that leaves a subtle trail of citrus peel and toasted hazelnut.
