Best Wine of the World 2021

    Château Mouton-Rothschild 2018 (Bordeaux, France)

"We are thrilled to hear about the BWW competition result, setting Mouton Rothschild 2018 as 2021 best wine of the world.

2018 was a vintage with its own challenges, and this award recognizes the work and commitment of the entire team at Mouton to express, each year, this extraordinary terroir at its highest level.

Mouton 2018 conveys all the unique personality of its site, along with the depth and richness of the vintage. We are delighted and proud that it shined and was recognized at such a level during the blind tasting finals."

    Rare Champagne Millésime 2008

« I am very proud Rare Millésime 2008 is awarded Best Champagne of the World. It is a great recognition for this coming vintage, that is the 12th of the Rare Champagne library.

We took our time in crafting this 2008 vintage. The cold 2008 year has bestowed an intense, taut minerality upon the Chardonnay grapes, along with remarkable freshness and unparalleled longevity. It was necessary to wait for the right moment when it burst into bloom.

For me, Rare Millésime 2008 embodies the infinite, with its unlimited, rich, constantly present youth and freshness.

These sensations intertwine on the palate in a constant cycle of flavours, each more precise and harmonious than the one before. While already a pleasure to drink, this vintage has now acquired an exceptional complexity and mineral character, punctuated with exotic spices notes that promise infinite longevity. Rare Millésime 2008 is true to the Rare Champagne signature. Its spring-like purity heralds unlimited growth.”

It is mind-blowing to see how many wines, professionals and wine lovers from all over the world participate and to be successful in such a tough competition is a great honor."

Platinum        Harlan Estate 2016 (Napa Valley, USA)

Platinum        Penfolds Grange 2016 (South Australia)

“We’re very proud and grateful to receive these awards in the world’s largest wine competition The Best Wine of the World (BWW) Competition 2021 - in not one but five categories!

This acknowledgement is a testament to the hard work of our Penfolds team – who strive to deliver excellence through innovation & experimentation – finessing 177 years of knowledge into every bottle.

As our flagship, Grange holds a special place in our stable and it’s great to see this sentiment is shared by those voting around the globe. This wine is forever true to its House Style, yet the awarded 2015 & 2016 vintages compellingly extol two very different Grange traits.  The 2015 Grange – a Grange of the ‘Old School’, dark & foreboding; The 2016 Grange – alluring & charming at release.  Both will confidently cellar for well over half a century, or reward opening at any point in the interim. This year Grange celebrates its 70th Anniversary - so what a terrific way to start 2021!

And the 2018 Yattarna Chardonnay? Many endorse it as possibly the finest Yattarna vintage yet released.  Time will tell …”.

BEST NEW WINERY OF THE WORLD

Best New Winery of the World  2021

    Promontory (Napa Valley, USA)

Greetings from Oakville! The Harlan family and team have asked me to express our profound appreciation for the recent BWW accolades. To be recognized and singled out by so many for doing something we love is extremely gratifying. For the acclaim to encompass all three of our separate winegrowing endeavors—Harlan Estate, BOND and Promontory—is, frankly, unbelievable!

But maybe your judges have provided a key to understanding this honor in naming our director of winegrowing Cory Empting as Best Winemaker of the World. Cory and his fabulous team (to whom he would be the first to give the credit) are the common thread in seeking to elaborate the purest expressions of the distinctive character of each of our diverse vineyard sites. His intuitive, thoughtful approach and strong leadership reflect a deep respect for tradition as well as an openness to innovation.

We hope to continue exploring the art of man and nature for many years to come, seeking to elevate the human spirit through the medium and mystery of wine. Thank you for your encouragement.

    MOST VOTED WINES

    MOST VOTED:

    BWW Most Voted Wine 2021:

    Penfolds Grange 2015 (Australia)

    Peter Gago, Penfolds

    BWW2021 COMPETITION

BWW-The Best Wine of the World-competition is the larges and by far the toughest wine competition on this planet. Unlike any other industry competition, only 1% of the wines involved will be awarded.

The BWW2021 competition was held in the world's largest wine information service - tastingbook.com. 20.675 wines received in total over 3 million votes votes from 190.000 wine professionals and wine lovers from 115 countries during the voting period.

After the voting period, the 100 wines with the most votes in each category reached the finals, organized in December 2020 in Helsinki.

In the Finals the wines were evaluated and ranked two different times as blind by the panels of tastingbook professionals (selected judges from over 11.000 Pros: wine writers, bloggers, MW's, sommeliers etc.)

The six main categories included red wine, white wine, rose wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine and champagne. Under each category, the best wines were also awarded according to price level and country.

In BWW Competition 2021, the Best Wine of the World title was awarded to  Château Mouton-Rothschild

Above is a list of all the winners - the tastingbook congratulates the winners and wishes you a successful 2021.
