The Story

The wine of Cheval des Andes combines the vibrant and intense expression of Argentinian Malbec with the rigour, elegance and savoir-faire of a great Bordeaux.

It is a unique blend of Malbec grapes and Bordeaux varietals – an ensemble with the exuberance of Malbec balanced by the temperance of Cabernet Sauvignon, completed with hints of Petit Verdot.

The vision of Cheval des Andes is to bring Château Cheval Blanc’s winemaking philosophy – which focusses on cellaring potential and elegance – to Argentina. Cheval des Andes makes wines that age gracefully and “travel through the decades,” according to Pierre Lurton, President of Château Cheval Blanc and Cheval des Andes.

These wines are elegant, meaning they are the most refined expression of the terroir of Mendoza. On the nose, they are complex rather than intense and on the palate, they are balanced rather than powerful.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is cherry red, and looking clear and full. On the nose it is round and complex. The taste is fresh, elegant, voluptuous, and dry, warming, with high tannin, with drying tannins, and high in acidity, medium-bodied, with multi-dimensional structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has cedar, floral, earthy, blueberry, plum, balsamic and licorice flavours. The finish is long and extensive. This wine is masterpiece. I paid around 50-100€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years, decant at least 30min before tasting and this is a good invest wine. Good value for money. I do recommend.

A blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon with intense purple colour, violet hue and black core. Very refined and noble nose with freshness, elegant fruit reminiscent of blackcurrants and blackberries, discreet spiciness, subtle oak, very elegant chocolate in the background and refined hints of mild spices. A nose with great precision. On the palate rich yet refined character with mild acidity, ripe and velvety tannins of great finesse, excellent length with complex aftertaste, quoting the fruit of the nose in combination with dark chocolate and hints of cocoa.  A wine of great purity and freshness.
