History

The French Huguenots arrived in the Cape in the late 1600s and settled in what became known as Franschhoek, or ‘French Corner’. The Huguenots planted vines as the terroir was perfectly suited to the production of wine. Allée Bleue was bought in 1999 by Friedrich-Wilhelm and Elke Dauphin, who were determined to breathe new life into the estate.

Allée Bleue is known to be one of the oldest yet most characteristic farms in the Cape. An intimate understanding of our terroir, careful nurturing of our vineyards and meticulous care taken in our cellar create the magic that is Allée Bleue wines. The uncompromising approach produces a range of internationally award-winning wines with distinct character, carefully crafted to create the perfect drinking experience.

Inside information

Herbs

While it is most widely known for its wines and fruit, the 200ha estate is ranked among the top three herb growers in the province. Our herb production consists of 33 hydroponic tunnels as well as a net house and from these structures over 1.2 tons of herbs are harvested each week. We are a key supplier to major South African retailers including Woolworths , Pick ‘n Pay, Checkers, Fruit and Veg City and Spar.
