History

At the heart of the Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr is a unique terroir surrounded by a hundred year-old stone wall and producing an exceptional Gewurztraminer: Clos Gaensbroennel.


Its name (“the goose fountain”) comes from the charming fountain topped by a stone goose at the foot of the Clos. The pure water of this fountain comes from a spring beneath the vineyard.

Vineyards

Our vineyard is in the Barr region in northern Alsace, shielded by the Vosges which protect it from most of the rain coming from the west and creating a very sunny micro-climate. Historical, The Barr vines are mentioned for the first time in an 8th century document from the Fulda Abbey in Germany.


The soils are for the most part granitic and clay-calcareous which confer freshness and finesse to the wines.

Winemaking

We are proud to present Eaux-de-vie and Liqueurs made with the greatest respect for tradition and fruit from our orchards. Distillation takes place in copper stills heated by a water bath, using two possible methods depending on the fruit (twice distilled or one column distillation). Expertise and experience are essential to collect only the heart of the distillation, the essence of the fruit.
