History

Since 1722, the vine has been to the Robert family what the pen has meant to the writer: the means of expressing a unique form of art whose primary need is to glorify nature.

Nearly three centuries after the first deed of ownership was established by Robert Le Jeune, the Robert family still cultivates vines at Fossoy, on the slopes of the Marne Valley.

At first under Andre's impetus and then under that of Alain Robert, the family estate has become Champagne A. Robert. Each generation has passed on their respect for tradition, without being stuck in the past - so tradition fuses with modernity. The savoir-faire learnt over the generations has led to an insistence upon quality above everything else.

Today, Arnaud Robert follows the family tradition. A Robert champagnes continue to captivate through their elegance and subtlety.

Vineyards

Fossoy is one of the first villages in the Marne Valley after leaving Chateau-Thierry in the direction of Epernay. Here, meandering in graceful bends, the Marne has carved a landscape of slopes to form this terroir which is so characteristic of the Champagne region, and the source of the perfect balance of its wines.

With excellent hillside locations on both sides of the Marne, the vineyards of the A. Robert estate are planted with the three great Champagne varieties: the Pinot Meunier, with its well structured fruit, the Chardonnay which gives finesse and elegance, and the Pinot Noir, which rounds out the blend with power and distinction.

Winemaking

A meticulous selection of grapes, the birth of the wine in our vats, the complex blending process followed by long years spent aging in our cellars, these are some of the many stages which we master in the most minute detail.

While our wines are made using traditional champagne methods, we also keep up with technological developments. The understanding of our terroirs and the family's deep experience in blending mean that champagnes from A Robert are valued for their many excellent qualities.

When it comes to creating the blends, time is our ally. That is why our champagnes are allowed to age for significantly longer than the legal minimum. This aging period is indispensable to allow the wines to develop their complexity to the full.

100 Best Champagnes 2022 tasting – day 1 behind. Very solid line-up with a handful of super gems! Cuvée R. Lalou 2006 (96p) is still hard to beat although Comtes de Champagne 2011 (95p) did well despite the challenging vintage. Armand de Brignac Brut Rosé (93p) was the best rosé ACE I recall having. For roses, Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve NV (94p) is superb find for the value!

“““Alfred Gratien Brut Classic - 90 points / Good looking normal size bottle in a perfect condition and has by the neck level. Colour is yellow, and looking bright and deep. On the nose it is intense, youthful, fresh, opulent and seductive. The taste is focused, fruity, elegant, perfumed, with silky tannins, with balanced, concentrated and well-structured structure. The finish is medium long, round, extensive and flavorful. This wine is transparent, sophisticated and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 15min before tasting.”””
