History

In 1965 most people were tinkering with cars in their garage. Davis Bynum was tinkering with wine. He created Barefoot Bynum Burgundy in that tiny room. But our spirited ways really began with our founders, Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey. In 1986, they took a sleepy label and gave it Sole. Both agreed it was time for a wine that didn't take itself too seriously. So, Barefoot Cellars was created (Bonnie liked the name because it was easy to pronounce) and initially run out of their home. Some say the office was so small you had to go outside to change your mind.

Winemaking

Jennifer Wall is one of those popular characters in the wine industry who’s also respected. When she joined the team there were only four varietals. Now we have a ton of great wines in our portfolio to choose from! She’s been recognized throughout the industry and has helped us become the most awarded wine and sparkling wine brand in U.S. competitions, winning over 1,800 medals. Along with being a great winemaker, she’s a great mom and lives with her husband and three kids in Sonoma County, California. She’s another one on the team who does well and does good —she’s a long time supporter of multiple Northern California non-profits. Jen’s great at mixing things up and we’re always excited to see what she’ll think of next.
