The Pere Verge family, more than just being the owners of Monteviejo winery are a family passionate about the great wines of the world.
The family, under the entrepreneurial vision and driven nature of Catherine, came to Argentina at the end of the 90s in order to build a winery in one of their favourite places in the world.
Since the passing of Catherine in 2013, her family has been led by Henry Parent who continues with untiring passion to make great wines in Argentina.
The terrain has poorly structured, loam and stony soils, ideal for high quality vines. Amongst the varieties planted we find the emblematic grape of Argentina, Malbec. There is also Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Chardonnay.
The drip irrigated vines are trained in a high trellis conduction system reaching 1.8 meters in height of high density plantations with 5,500 plants per hectare, distributed between small lots of 1 to 3 hectares in order to maintain good traceability in the vineyard.
The chosen clones are of French origin with low production and high quality. For the cultivation of Malbec, we selected indigenous varieties from old vineyards with excellent adaptability to new terroirs like nowhere else in the world.
In Vista Flores, the vine enjoys particularly favourable geographic and climatic conditions. The winemaking is done respecting the great viniculture tradition: hand harvests no fertilisers.
