History

Growing grapes and crafting high quality wines have always been our family tradition. We were born and raised in the hills that link Grinzane Cavour to Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of Langhe, part of the Unesco Heritage.
Careful work in the vineyard, commitment in the winery, respect for the environment: a passion for wine that has been handed down for decades, in Langhe, where the best plots are selected for the production of Barolo. This history talks about the territory, in full respect of the tradition.

In 1957 Giacomo Grimaldi starts selling grapes and in the 60s (his son) Giovanni Grimaldi begins to produce wine and sell it in bulk. Giovanni builds our pillars: he is very careful about winegrowing, in full respect of the vineyard and wine. He bottles the wines in the best vintages creating an important library stock and values the vineyards and grapes.
Questing for quality from the vineyard to the bottle is already a key aspect of Giovanni’s philosophy while he has been the beating heart of the business for many years.
In the following decades, our history is marked by the work in the vineyard and the careful winemaking which both enhance the quality of the grapes. These remain two key aspects and are still crucial in our approach to the vine today.

In 1990 a new chapter begins: Bruna Grimaldi and her husband Franco Fiorino bring enthusiasm and new competences to the winery. They buy selected plots in order to produce wines only from their own vineyards. A new winery is built. The work is improved and our wines are proposed to new markets.

Since 2013, Simone and Martina, son and daughter of Bruna and Franco, bring their passion and enthusiasm to the family business. In the recent years, their parents’ experience has combined with the different studies of Simone and Martina while our brand, Bruna Grimaldi, becomes more recognized, thanks to the quality of the wines.
A family passion, a knowledge handed down to generations and improved over the years that put the vineyards and the meticulous work at the heart of the business.

Vineyards

The vineyards form the heritage, the beating heart of Bruna Grimaldi Azienda Agricola. Bruna and Franco have always believed in this land and, with hard work and dedication, in the past 20 years have bought plots in different municipalities in the Barolo area, all of them being well suited to the Nebbiolo and Barbera vines.

Our winery owns 15 hectares planted with vines, divided between small and large plots. The fragmentation of the vineyards is one of the strengths of our business because it allows us to offer high quality from the different terroirs that make up the Langhe where microclimates, soils and exposures conveys important and unique characteristics to the wines.

Our family have always farmed uniquely indigenous grape varieties: Arneis, very old native grape to this region and the only white grape of our winery; Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo are the red grapes. These grape varieties are spread over different villages in the Barolo region and the neighbouring municipalities.

The Barolo vineyards

Bruna Grimaldi winery owns vineyards in the northern and eastern part of the Barolo area. We farm the following MGAs: Badarina, Bricco Ambrogio,  Raviole, Borzone, Roere di Santa Maria, San Lorenzo di Verduno. Two main types of terroir dominate the region: Formazioni di Lequio and Marne di Sant’Agata fossili, which are an important discriminator for the Barolos we produce.
